The Rivermark Moms was founded in 2003 by Ciara Balagot as a discussion forum for parents in our newly-build neighborhood. It has grown to about 1,500 members and has served as great source of community in these past dozen years. The club now is more than just a mom’s group, the members now include parents, non-parents, teachers, librarians, a city council member, and all people who have an interest in strengthening the community.
Rivermark Moms hosts a number of fun annual events including an Easter Party and National Night Out (with the local fire and police departments). Each Wednesday all summer long, Rivermark Moms hosts a “summer playdate” at our large neighborhood field, and hundreds of neighbors turn up to buy dinner at the three food trucks, get a cookie or lemonade from the entrepreneurial kid-run booths, and enjoy time with neighbors.
RM is also committed to helping others in need, by organizing clothing drives with Hope Services as well as raising money for charities. Over the years, we earned a philanthropic award from the local Red Cross and recognition as a Local Hero from our State Senator. RM helped with the opening of the new Northside branch library, and continue to work with the library as it serves Rivermark. The original email list has grown to a multi-platform social network that brings neighbors together online as well as in person. The RM online community has become a place to celebrate successes, discuss safety issues and neighborhood improvements, create playgroups, and organize events.
We are proud of the sense of community that we provide for Rivermark, which is truly a special and unique place to live and raise our children!
